Thought of The Day!

                      My blueprint for life :)

When In Oak Park Illinois

On a recent trip to Chicago I visited the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright. Both of which are located in Oak Park Illinois along with a neighborhood full of Wright designed homes. I love Franks work and my day in Oak Park was truly the highlight of my trip. I promised no vacation pictures, but these are all of Franks work. Gotta love a man with a vision ;)

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros live @ KCRW

By far the most AWESOME band ever!!! They're a little Hippie-McKooky? But I luv them!!

Most Favorite food in the world!!!

A friend of mine was recently in El Salvador and Bragged about experiencing Pupusas in their origin country. I consider myself a connoisseur of pupusas, but i'm not about to hop on the next plane to El Salvador. If your wondering what exactly is a pupusa I'll explain and you will fall in love and instantly become obsessed much like myself. A pupusa is a stuffed corn-tortilla, usually served with a spicy coleslaw called curtido. Pupusas are hand-made and thick. Like all corn tortillas, they are made using corn masa. They are stuffed with one or more of the following:

cheese (queso) (usually a soft Salvadoran cheese called Quesillo)

chicken (pollo)

refried beans (frijoles refritos)

queso y Loroco (loroco is a shrub flower bud from Central America)

There is also the pupusa revueltas (with mixed ingredients of cheese, pork, and beans). Pupusas are from El Salvador, but immigrants have brought the dish to Southern California, where there are now many pupuserias (places where pupusas are sold). Pupusas are usually served with curtido and tomato sauce. They are eaten with the fingers. They are delicious and I love them and there are only a few places in Brooklyn where you can find pupusas. The best place I've found is Bahia restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn! This place not only serves up delicious pupusas but also other South American favorites like fried sweet platanos and melt in your mouth corn tamales. So if you can't make you way to El Salvador, hop on the L and head over to Bahia. It is definitely worth the trip.

Cute Little Flea :)

I must say I've literally discovered the most awesome things by aimlessly wandering around the city. On one poorly planned Saturday a friend and I stumbled upon the Hester street market. It's a cute little weekend flea market on Hester street on the lower east side in Manhattan. It is located in what might have been a former parking lot. It is chock full of vintage finds from bikes to clothing to shoes and tasty treats from local vendors. So if you ever find yourself wandering around Hester street stop in and have a look around. I guarantee you wont regret it :)

Belts with dresses and friends with benifits!

http://www.staples.com/VELCRO-Brand-STICKY-BACK-Fasteners-White/product_613182?cmArea=SEARCH

Ever tried to wear a dress with a belt? I bet all you got was a bunch of flap! Well never fear fashion fans I have found a quick and easy solution to the belt flap problem that has been plaguing us all. If you want to wear a belt with a dress that does not have belt loops using velcro is the answer. Gone are the days of using hair pins to securely attach the flapping part of the belt to your side. All you need are self adhesive velcro dots or strips which are sold at all Staples stores. Simply attach the two components of the velcro dots ( one fuzz side and one bristly side) to the part of your belt that flaps and Vola! No more belt flap and you can literally wear any belt with any dress, loops or no loops! This little trick single handedly changed my summer!

This little pinky I found at Buffalo Exchange in Williamsburg, Brooklyn this weekend! I love dresses and for me the cuter the better! Buffalo Exchange is a great place for a budget conscience girl like myself to get the most bang for my dollar. I do recommend sporadic monthly visits because if you go too often you'll just find yourself staring at the same things over and over. And it has become quite the lil singles scene. But I think Buffalo is best when visited with a friend who shares your passion for fashion. And maybe if your all tapped out in the old wallet that friend will pay for your skirt. That's another type of friend with benifits, the kind a girl like me is very lucky to have :)

Just Do It Yourself!

Hello friends of fashion, lovers of the trade,

I recently found myself being skillfully crafty and awesomely inventive when it comes to all things fashion! I in turn felt that it was in fact my civic duty to share it with the masses. This is my second try at blogging so I hope that this time around consistency will prevail! It's not such a blah, blah, blah listen to my stories and look at my vacation pictures sort of blog. It's more like a savvy girls guide to fashion. My blog will consist of inventive ideas and tips for budget conscience retail obsessed women world wide. As well as any and all things dresses and quick and easy ways to salvage old favorites. I will also post local Brooklyn happenings and answer any and all fashion questions. The original Macgyver could probably give you tips on how to make a cellphone out of dental floss, a toilet paper roll and a hair pin. But I have a different spin on DIY, I can tell you how to create 10 outfits from 5 separates and re-heel your own shoe! Okay maybe not re-heel your shoe, but you get the gist of it. Hope you enjoy it!!

Best,
LC :)
